Adrienne Behrmann

Anne is currently the sponsor of the LGBTQ club and is an outspoken supporter of this community. She also has great compassion for her students and, recognizing the diversity in their learning styles, she makes accommodations to ensure they will be successful in her class.

I can’t think of a particular example, but a general characteristic of Anne is that she is a critical thinker. I’ve noticed her critical thinking often being applied to situations where she will provide suggestions for a situation considering various other viewpoints. For example: “What about the kids who…? Some of the kids don’t have access to…”

Burton Barrager

I don’t have specific examples that I have witnessed personally. I am enjoying hearing about how you are helping a few of the older kids like Luci Johnson work on some entitled behaviors though!

I’ve had less opportunity to view these sorts of things directly as I teach/advise in a different division, so I’m not typically able to view Anne in those kinds of conversations. That being said, I have no reason to believe that Anne is anything but incredibly supportive of our student body, whether that’s based on learning profile, gender identity, etc.

Anne is a fierce advocate for gender rights, women in STEM, pay equity, and female leadership. As a female colleague, I am constantly grateful for her wisdom, experience, and leadership in the area of supporting gender diversity at the faculty and staff level (and within her field).

John Stegeman

I think Anne is a great advocate and role model for women and female students in STEM fields.

During the 11/29 PDD, Anne participated in an Evo of Instruction presentation in which she solved a key problem…students had not been in-person to learn a set of skills that were the basis of Advanced Chem. She put together a roadmap for students to follow at their own pace in their own way, which allowed each student to engage in the project in a manner that best suited their needs,   Anne is also a fierce advocate for gender equity, particularly in the field of science. She works to counter the signals sent by broader society to young women about their place in science and math. This is particularly important given the age of the students she works with, and is something I greatly admire about Anne.

When co-teaching Algebra 2 with Anne, she was a big proponent of teaching in ways which recognized students as individuals and supported the diverse group of learners in the room. She was always open to changing approaches and experimenting, literally she created a science experiment measuring pH levels to help us understand Logarithms, with different techniques to help reach the different learners we have. Outside of the class, I can see Anne working with various cross-sections of students from sponsoring Pride Alliance, to running a math and videogaming EBC, to chatting it up with various different students at the homecoming dance-but-not-a-dance this year.

Anne is the faculty sponsor for GSA at EPS. Anne has worked in advance chemistry to support the neural diversity on our campus by providing different laboratory assessment opportunities for students.. Students were asked to produce traditional lab reports, but also mini-posters and comic strips to demonstrate mastery of material.
