An Introduction

Lab Selfie with some of the 11th grade students in Advanced Chemistry. They did this for every lab and presented me with a book of those images at the end of the school year.

Hello reader! What you will read and see on the following pages is a snapshot in time from the 2021-2022 school year. This represents the current state of my teaching over a 25 year teaching career that includes nearly 15 years of teaching high school. The process of completing the PDP is not well represented in the writing as a crucial piece is the monthly meetings with my PDP committee. The members of my committee were Jeff Bandel, Adam Kruger, Terry Macaluso, Elena Olson, John Stegeman and Sam Uzwack. I am grateful for their insight, questions and positive support. What you will read is the snapshot in time. What happened in the committee meetings is where the professional development happened for me. Some of that ended up in the revisions but most of it is still in my head and ready for processing as I prepare for the upcoming school year. It is important to note that this is not a “how-to” for teaching in general, for teaching high school or for teaching chemistry. We are all in different seasons of our teaching careers with different experiences in various subjects. What I hope that you see in this snapshot is the value of relationships and reflection. I also hope that you might find one or two takeaways to explore via your own work. Thanks, Anne
